Highclere Clastle, Newbury, West Berkshire
Do you watch Downton Abbey? I really like it and I always wanted to go to Highclere Castle. But with a toddler in a historic place where you have to be careful not to touch anything? Yes, why not :-).
As usual I packed loads of stuff for my little one - for those just in case events: second set of clothes, drink, Hipp meal, healthy biscuits, fruits, nappies, nappy bags, cream, some toys... . We went there on a Sunday and bought the ticket there and then. It's actually not too expensive. Once you enter the castle you have to leave the pram in the hallway (which is ok otherwise you would have to carry the bulky thing up and down the stairs). You are not exploring the castle on your own but go from room to room where someone will explain things about the TV series as well as the "real" Downton Abbey (unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures). The castle is smaller than I thought but it's really nice to be there and see some of the rooms that we came to life on TV and get a feeling of that time.
We also enjoyed the garden grounds afterwards.
Even the sun came out so we had a picnic with sandwiches and biscuits again. My little princess liked our day out although she was pretty tired afterwards and fell asleep on our way back :-). It's definitely worth a visit!

It looks lovely there. We almost mistaken this castle for Highcliffe castle last year, where we were going to the wedding. Lucky we checked the destination again before we left home. It would be funny if we came to the different wedding ;)

Lovely place and lovely pictures. We should go to places like that together next time :)

Vanilla, those to castles really sound similar :-). I'm a bit jealous: you went to a wedding at Highcliffe Castle? What a beautiful location, especially with the sea so close. I guess they've done lovely pictures :-). And yes Pepper, we should really go and explore a bit together especially since my mini-me is no longer interested in just sitting somewhere. She needs to move around now and have space to explore herself. Cinnamon x
